Resistant: Hypertension can be difficult to control: 1. Lifestyle (continued overweight, high alcohol or salt intake) 2. Underlying severe essential hypertension. Many people with essential hypertension need 3-5 prescription drugs daily. More powerful diuretics (furosemide, spironolactone) may have a dramatic effect. 3. Rare secondary hypertension due to meds, kidney or adrenal disease. Hope this helps you.
