NSAIDS+/-opiates : Nsaids such as prescription strength Ibuprofen 800 mg every 6-8 hours or naprosyn (naproxen) 500 mg every 8 to 12 hours may be helpful. It is not unusual to require more potent analgesic medications such as hydrocodone in the first few days after a rib fracture.
