A member asked:

Why is it important to get a baby tooth that has a cavity filled when it will fall out with in a couple years anyways?

Baby teeth: Baby teeth erupt at different times and depending on the tooth may shed anywhere from 6 to 12 yrs of age. If a tooth gets a cavity early & then left untreated it can progress into an infection. Infections are serious & deadly. Your dentist will tell you if a cavity in a baby's tooth will become serious enough to fill, don't assume that they will fall out before the infection gets worse.

Maintain space: Primary teeth maintain space and allow room for the secondary teeth to erupt properly. In addition, an abscess in a baby tooth can affect the bone and enamel of the permanent tooth underneath it. You don't want to have your child suffer with preventable pain and swelling, do you ? Have the tooth restored.
