A member asked:

8mo old usually has loose stools. last 3 days they have been firm, like playdoh, but not dry. today she cried during every bm. what should i do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Increase fluids: Most important to intermittent constipation is to make sure the child is getting plenty of fluids. At 8 months, can add a few ounces of water to daily formula intake, and if stools are harder than normal, a few ounces of juice can be added from a cup as well. Don't get into habit of juice from a bottle. Add a little extra fiber into diet. If problem persists, talk to doc about what meds may help.
