Ankle swelling: Each ankle fracture can vary depending on location and severity. Sometimes the swelling last longer after initial tx and this is accompanied by pain. Usually, if swelling is parallel to the level of fracture severity, seeing your pcp for a referral to a specialist is recommended. Try rest, icing, compression with ankle wrap or brace, and elevation first. Anti-inflammatory meds recommended.

Swelling: Fracture ankles tend to swell for quite some time. Gravity pulses fluid blood etc to the area. They can swell after trauma for months and longer. If obese, have high blood pressure, smoke, drink alcohol and have salt in diet you will swell more. Hope this helps!
