Hard to say: It could be from the injury it could be from the position during surgery, it could be from the weight of the boot.

Knee pain: First i would have the knee evaluated for a possible meniscus i njury, or a medial collateral ligament strain. The other possibility is compensation with the pwb on the medial side the leg, placing stress to medial aspect of the knee.

Early PWB?: Not sure if i read that correctly, but it's only been less than 2 weeks after an ankle orif and you are pwb in a boot? If you're having pain in the knee, the boot may be off setting your balance and your hip might be next. Usually i wouldn't let my pts walk until i see bone healing on x-ray after orif (usually 6 weeks), but i hope that helps!
