Most lung nodules: Are benign. The smaller the size of the nodule (less than 5 mm) and the presence of calcium deposit would likely signify a benign lesion. Sampling artifact: Each ct image represents a portion of the body and has a thickness, usu 5mm. Slice selection artifact occurs when the abnormality is nearly the same size as the thickness of the image. If the abnormality occurs completely in the slice, it is seen well. However, if it bridges 2 slices it may not be seen well in either. A repeat 3 months can would allow evaluation for interval growth or resolution.
