Fungus of nails: You may have a fungus of your toenails. Consult a dermatologist do he can take a culture and start you on medication if necessary.

Sounds fungal: You are a sick 21 year old. Your description sounds like a fungal infection of the toenail. This can make the nail brittle and flaky as you describe. You will need to have the nail thoroughly trimmed and filed to apply a topical antifungal medicine in hopes of alleviating this. Laser treatment may be another option. You are not a candidate for oral antifungal medicine.

Nails: Fragile chipped nails could be a fungus infection. Get checked by podiatrist who can take a sample and see.

Sounds like fungus: Keep in mind... The fda has recently come out with a blanket statement that toenail fungus can not be cured. It is "managed" by a number of modalities, but it can always come back in the future. See a podiatrist for treatment options.
