Any decongestant: As long as he is over 6 years old, you should be safe with most any decongestant.

Many things: Decongestants work on an as-needed basis, and nasal steroid sprays are the most effective for nasal congestion. Depending on his age and whether the congestion goes away sometimes, his tonsils and adenoids should be evaluated. If he's on an inhaled steroid, he'll probably be surprised at how much it'll improve if, after his 10-second breath hold when using it, he exhales through his nose.

? Allergic: Many asthmatics have nasal allergies and/or are triggerd by upper respiratory infections. Your doctor may prescribe a nasal steroid for your son's allergies or nasal saline rinses for congestion.
