A member asked:

What can cause tb meningitis twice in a person? what are the precautionary measures for the rest of the life for a survivor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

TB: The second episode suggests that the first time around the treatment failed to eradicate all the organisms, and the recurrence is not reinfection, but recrudescence. Tb outside the lungs results from spread thru the bloodstream to various areas of the body and reactivation at those sites later on, . You may have to remain on treatment for a much longer time, but need more info to advise.
