How far apart?: You can expect braxton-hicks contractions up until you go into labor. They are irregular and nonpainful. When your contractions are painful, regular, and 5 minutes apart, for more than an hour, go to the hospital, as this represents true contractions. You should also go to the hospital if you have vaginal bleeding or fluid, or decreased fetal movement.
