What are the risks associated with having colonoscopy being a mechanical valve patient taking coumadin (warfarin)?

Don't stop coumadin (warfarin): The latest research indicates that it is safe to perform colonoscopy and polypectomy while patients continue coumadin, (warfarin) as long as inr is in the therapeutic range of 2-3. Risk of bleeding is very low, and when compared with the risk of stroke or another clotting event, bleeding is relatively easy to control. You should confirm this with your doctor before the procedure.

Low: Always some risk of bleeding if biopsies, but probably safer than reversal and heparin.
