Back and knee pain: Walking or gait involves a kinetic chain of movement including certain normal movements called "determinants of gait" which are important for efficient walking. A change in one determinant of gait ie knee motion will change pelvic motion and can influence the back. In essence knee problem can contribute to back pain.

Back pain: Likely the new back pain is do to the way you are walking and protecting or guarding the knee, likely your gait or stance in walking is putting additional strain on your back.
