Probably contusion: A direct blow to the knee most commonly causes a contusion, a bruise to the soft tissues and the bone. It can also cause bursitis, an inflammation of the tissue in front of the knee. If there is significant swelling or instability, it may be worth seeing a doctor to have it examined to be sure there is no internal injury.
