Diabetes usually: Doesn't damage the pancreas. The death of certain insulin-producing cells in the pancreas can produce diabetes, but the remainder of the pancreas usually functions normally. There is no medication or operation to improve the diabetes cell death, except to keep your glucose as normal as possible. The rest of the pancreas usually is spared and also can't be helped by surgery.
