ICSI risks: Icsi is utilized in certain cases during ivf, mainly male factor infertility. Risks are low but higher that ivf without icsi. It is thought that the increased risk of fetal malformations are related to the underlying infertility rather than icsi itself. A specific malformation mentioned with icsi is hypospadius, a defect in which the opening of the urethra is on the underside of the penis.
