Root canals: Infections in a root are worse, what are your options? Are you going to place an implant? Than you have a titanium screw in your body (some people say that's bad too). Or a bridge, than you have to shave down two more teeth. Don't listen to everything you hear, everyone and every case is different. Ask you dentist to take an x-ray and see if there is an abscess present than see your options.

Wrong Information: Infections in the root of the tooth are "bad" for your health. The root canal therapy removes this infection - therefore this procedure is "good" for your health. The long term dead tooth needs to be checked by your dentist - these teeth get brittle and break very easy = tooth loss. However, with root canal therapy then a post & core, then a crown allows long term use to occur.

Not true: Root canal therapy is quite safe and has been performed safely for quite a long time. If a tooth is non-vital, it should be treated to avoid and infection, bone loss, and possible loss of the tooth.

NOT TRUE!: Not sure where you read that, but absolutely not true. Rct is a very safe procedure when performed by a competent dentist. Leaving a tooth in your mouth that is infected or can become infected is not safe. I can't tell you what would be the best treatment for that particular tooth. A general dentist & endodontist should be consulted to discuss your options & you should understand why it's needed.

No/no: First, it's hogwash that root canals are bad for health. On the contrary, they are to promote good health by removing pulps that are diseased, saving teeth, and preventing and eliminating abscesses. Secondly, your tooth should be evaluated. If the pulp in non- vital, eventually it will cause problems, even if it is currently asymptomatic. Fear the consequences of future disease, not the root cana.
