Cutting it close: A true grade 2 tear of a hamstring involves actual separation of muscle tissue and bleeding and subsequent inflammatory response locally. This can often be a 6 to 8 week injury to heal. This precludes the training required for the event and coming back too soon can lead to recurrent and actually a worse injury. A good course of physical therapy with a pt that understands the injury is beneficial.
