A member asked:

I got a tattoo 1 week ago. only the places where white ink was used are swollen. the rest is flat. is this an allergic reaction to the white ink?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, probably.: The most common allergen is red ink, but you can be allergic to any color of ink. Hydrocortisone cream and tincture of time may solve the problem; if not, a dermatologist will have to inject a steroid solution into the swollen areas (not as bad as it sounds). If that fails (which is rare), the only other option is removing the pigment, which can be done with specialized lasers.
