Muscle atrophy: Muscle atrophy occurs when muscle has become denervated (nerve fibers to the muscle have died). Dead is dead. Adding steroid to the muscle or nerve won't bring it back to life. An EMG can tell you what percent of the nerve fibers are permanently lost. If you still have at least 20% or more you have a chance for recovery through re-sprouting. The higher the percentage lost the longer the recovery.
