A member asked:

My grandmar is in the hospital. her doctor just said something about us abdomen, echogenic kidney with cortical atrophy what is that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Echogenic kidneys: Your grandmother must be quite old and she would have chronic kidney disease on the basis of her age, even with no hypertension. Depending on her age, i would not do any diagnostic tests, other than blood work to get an idea of what her BUN and creatinine are. The us findings are quite consistent of the findings of a women who should be in her 80's or 90's.
