CBT: Well, if you are that fearful of sleep it is clearly impacting your quality of life. Cognitive behavioral therapy with a good psychologist may be an effective form of treatment for you. Good luck.

Facing Ur What-If: We tend 2seek reassurance that the things we fear won't happen. An anxiety expert approaching ur fear from a cognitive-behavioral angle might argue that no one can guarantee that what u fear won't happen. Even talking about "likelihood" may not help. But people often feel relief when they face their fear...When accept it could happen. Ask urself: if this happens, then what happens? And then what?

If you are afraid of dying in your sleep you should request a sleep study to be sure you don't have sleep apnea that causes you to stop breathing. A sleep study will reassure you. Have a physical exam to rule out illness. If you continue to have fear please see a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in multiple types of psychotherapy and you may need medication from a Psychiatrist.
