If you had repair: Of a paraesophageal hiatal hernia 3 yrs ago and suspect a recurrence, you need to see a surgical specialist immediately. This sub-type of hiatal hernias, if present, could lead to incarceration and even strangulation. Imaging studies will tell for sure.
