My wife is taking prednisone for pmr: are there any other treatments besides steroids for pmr?

Possibly: The best approach is to talk with her doctor about treatment options. Low dose steroids is the recommended medication for treating pmr.

Not really: Steroids are the primary, and only solo treatment for pmr at this time. Sometimes Methotrexate is used in addition to steroids to help decrease the total amount of steroids needed and there is experimental studies using tocilizumab, but the standard of care is steroids.
