A 24-year-old member asked:
I have been bleeding for a month after miscarriage. Should I go to the doctor?

Yes: After a pregnancy loss most patients will bleed. The length of time is variable from a few days to a few weeks. The normal menses should then resume. On occasion the bleeding continues,
this may be a sign of retained tissue and should be investigated.
The md will do blood tests, examination and ultrasound.
If tissue is present a D&C or meds may be needed.

Miscarriage: Do a home pregnancy test. If pregnant (or even if not pregnant), you should see a doctor.

At the same time.: When the products of conception are passed/expelled, vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal cramping are expected.

The bleeding or spotting after a miscarriage may last up to a week or so, but should be progressively lighter each day. If bleeding has not resolved within this time, or if you develop increased pain or a fever, you should see your doctor.

A 18-year-old female asked:
Can you have a miscarriage without any bleeding?

Dr. Lillian Schapiroanswered

Unusual: You may bleed like a heavy period and actually be having a miscarriage. Rarely will the pregnancy just be absorbed by the body. If you have missed a period and have a positive pregnancy test, you need to see a doctor.
