Cure?: There is no "cure" per se, but medications and/or therapy can lead to full remission of symptoms. Sometimes after 1-2 years medication may no longer be needed, but if recurrence of symptoms on or off medication then indefinite treatment may be needed. Staying off drugs and alcohol, regular sleep pattern, and good nutrition are also important.

Depends: If its mild to moderate depression can be treated with talk therapy or antidepressant alone, though talk therapy has no risk of physical s/e. Sever depression usually requires antidepressants, though combining it with talk therapy gives better chance if achieving and maintaining remission of depression.

Accept help: Dear puffin, recommend professional care. Cognitive behavioral therapy with a psychologist may be very beneficial. Psychotropic medications are sometimes needed. Significant alcohol use can also contribute to depressive symptoms. Many men self-medicate with alcohol to avoid dealing with depression. Being open to getting help is the best thing you can do for yourself. Take care.

Cure?: Depression is a cyclical disorder for many sufferers. If symptoms are controlled with medication or psychotherapy, there is a possibility for a long remission. However, many recur. There are many antidepressants that may be helpful and many in the investigation and testing phases of development. Adding a healthy diet and exercise can be very helpful.

Kinda sorta: There's no cure for depression in sense of an operation to remove appendix or repair broken hip. However, like diabetes & high blood pressure, depression can be managed w/medication. Response is 50% improvement. Remission is 100% improvement. Recovery is remission for >6mo. Relapse may occur between remission & recovery while recurrence may occur after recovery. Work closely w/your doctor.
