Dental disease: Yes, this has the potential to be very severe and dangerous and your daughter should be seen by a pediatric dentist and perhaps an oral surgeon. The cause and need for treatment can only be ascertained by the examining professional. Hope she feel better soon and that this clears up quickly.

Tooth abscess: The tooth may have a cavity which may be causing a localized infection. Since she is five, the tooth is deciduous (baby tooth). A chronic infection could impact or damage the permanent tooth underneath the infected one. She needs dental care asap.

Infection: Abscess means nerve tooth is infected. Cause: bacteria + poor oral hygiene + high sugar/starch diet + not seeing dentist every 6 months + not managing fluoride. Cure: may need root canal rx and crowns or extractions and space maintainers. Dangerous: you bet. It's an infection. Can easily get out of control. Call your dentist now before there is more harm to your child.

Go to a dentist...: The cause of an abscess most likely is deep decay or a break which enters the nerve space known as the pulp chamber. It can be dangerous if not well treated. Please see a dentist to treat the abscesses.
