Elevate foot: Ankle sprains (negative x-ray without fracture) can cause pain and swelling the latter lasting up to several months. The ligaments that are torn take apron. 2-6 weeks to heal. If pain persists longer than that you may need an MRI to rule other injuries to the ankle that do not show upon a plain x-ray.Elevate foot higher than you heart and see doc again if concerned.

Concerned, at least: You should at least see your doctor who can order an x-ray in case there is a fracture (break). If you go to a podiatrist or orthopedist, they usually can take x-rays in their office and treat you at the same time. Good luck.

X-ray: I would go to a foot/ankle specialist locally to make sure you don't have a fracture (broken bone ) in the foot or ankle
