Before echo's: In the old days, rheumatic heart disease was the cause of most "hearable" murmurs:if heard, you were in trouble. Now with better stethoscopes & esp echo machines, "innocent" murmurs are frequently heard (or small valve leaks are commonly seen with echo) and normal--even all four valves. www.thepmc.org.
