2 Versions of Virus: Both are herpes simplex virus.1 is normally in oral area & 2 in genitals but either can be found either place. Most people have been exposed to hsv1 early in life and have very few problems other than occasional cold sores. Hsv1 in the gential area tends to be more painful than in oral area because that area is more sensitive in general. Meds can help treat/prevent both 1&2 in either area.
