Pain : Pain may be perceived to proceed form the veins. However, the pain impulse is transmitted to the nervous system via nerve endings. The veins are surrounded and in close proximity to these nerve endings. These would carry the signal to the brain if a problem occurs in a vein. Pain may be indicative of an inflammatory, destructive, compressive, infectious or even metabolic process.

Yes you can: Veins can become inflamed and sore. Common vein conditions that are painful are varicose veins, phlebitis and hematomas [ from vein puncture or trauma] . There are not nerve inside of veins but the nerves nearby will transmit the pain.
