Side effects: Mirena (levonorgestrel) is a Progesterone only method of birth control and therefore like all hormonal contraceptives, it has side effects. Some side effects include bloating, breast tenderneess, spotting. However, no birth control method is a hundred percent effective. It is possible to concieve with an iud. I.
