A member asked:

Can mirena (levonorgestrel) cause a false negative on a home pregnancy test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: No, Mirena (levonorgestrel) does not release or inhibit the homone HCG which is what pregnancy tests measure. If it is positive, you are pregnant and the Mirena (levonorgestrel) needs to be removed. If it is negative but you think you maybe pregnant, wait a few day and recheck. Obviously you can't wait for a period - those are usually supressed with mirena (levonorgestrel).
