My 8 year old has lazy bowel and has had it for 5 years. i have seen docs and paediatrics but no results when will this end? poor child is deppressed.

CONSTIPATION: Do you mean he does not have regular bm ? If aganglionic megacolon have been ruled out, then his diet has to be more of fruits and veggies, less rice , more fluid intake and juices like prunes, pears, oranges. Bananas and apples makes stools hard. We discourage rx for constipation. Child has to do it naturally every day.

Meds, routine, 5-2-1: Common problem, but therapy is well-discussed in the fact-sheet from RCH Melbourne:http://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Constipation/ The important points are: regular effective meds to keep the bowel empty, regular toileting after meals (gastro-colic reflex), healthy diet: 5 - fruit & veg servings daily 2 - maximum time on screens (including iPads etc) 1 - at LEAST 1 hr good exercise daily
