Complimentary: The MRI shows the anatomy of a nerve and whether it is enlarged/severed or being pushed on by nearby structures. Emg tests how the nerve transmits electrical signals and, as such, is a test of nerve function. Mri shows anatomy and EMG tests how well the nerve is working.

EMG and MRI: Emg gives functional information about the nerve whereas MRI provides structural information. Depending on what your physician is planning for your treatment EMG might provide him added information.
