Pain and swelling: You are probably going to have to see an orthopedic surgeon to evaluate this but since most acute shoulder blade injuries are from trauma i find that ice to the area will decrease the swelling, also immobilize the shoulder with a sling. However, if you have an infection, severe injury or cancer, it may need surgery with drainage of a potential abscess, repair of a torn ligament or removal of tumor.
