Diving & Ear Pain: Dear hurting ears, the most common cause for ear pain after diving is an "ear squeeze". This occurs when the eustachian tubes are not able to equalize the pressure differential at the eardrum as one descends in the water. The worst result would be a ruptured eardrum. Before considering diving again, have your doctor examine both ears and be sure that you can "clear" easily and without pain.

Agree w both: Earlier responses. Barotrauma is the most frequent diving injury. This could be a squeeze or a reverse squeeze -depending on situation. You might have a ruptured ear drum, an external or middle ear infection. Taking decongestants and holding off on diving can help. Concur, that you should be symptom free and cleared by an ENT , hyperbaric/ diving doctor or any other type of physician familiary w.
