Remember: Remember when you were a child! don't use technical or medical language; use examples. "you know how you feel when you're excited, and you can't help talking about everything you're thinking? Well, mike's mind is like that most of the time, to himself". Actually, this is the best way to explain most everything to anyone.

Simple explanation: Keep it simple. You can explain that everyone is different. Some people have trouble learning the same way as others and may need more help. Other people have physical problems that may make it more difficult for them to do certain activities. But it's okay! just treat people kindly, no matter if they seem different. If they have more questions, tell them you are always willing to try to answer.

Answer questions: at the child's developmental level. Find books at http://www.amazon.com/Childrens-Books-on-Autism/lm/RZ40DG71A1U69. To answer, "Why is Joe so bossy?" say, "You know how some kids have trouble reading but they're really good at math? Joe is really good at math, but can't understand that you don't always want to play what he wants to play. So, we teach him rules about taking turns to help him."
