Hip impingement: Mri arthrogram (mri with dye injected into the hip) is the modality for diagnosis. Treatment initially is with anti-inflammatories, physical therapy. If not improving, then surgey may be an option. Find an orthopaedic surgeon with experience in hip arthroscopy.

Conservative care: Treatment typically starts with conservative options including physical therapy and anti-inflammatory meds, as well as possibly hip injections. Mri is usually reserved for preoperative imaging assessment. If your treatment gets to the point of discussing surgery, ask your physician if hip arthroscopy would be an option.
