Steroid use: Yes, long term steroids can cause a lot of potential problems. It is helpful for a lot of medical conditions, but you want to get off of it if you possibly can. They do decrease swelling, but they also suppress your immune system, so you are at increased risk for contracting infections of all sorts. You can have significant water gain, weight gain, cataracts or even avascular hip necrosis.
