First Pancreatitis: The fda has warned that Byetta increases the risk of acute pancreatitis which causes tissue death and necrosis which can be quickly fatal. Byetta also increases the risk of chronic pancreatitis which has ongoing tissue damage. Chronic pancreatitis, no matter whether related to alcohol use or medications, itself carries a higher risk of pancreatic cancer.

It may: Byetta has been associated with pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Things to look for are significant abdominal pain, that may or may also involve vomiting, that does not go away. Understand these are rare side effects and alone are not usually reason enough to avoid this therapy unless your risk of either is already naturally elevated (say, due to other medical conditions you have).
