Mcl sprain: It takes a minimum of 6 weeks and sometimes up to 3 months to heal. The grade 3 tear is more severe and may not heal. It needs to be protected with a hinged brace and followed by serial physical exams or a mri.

Depends: Depends on the type of tear and its location. Most tears from the medial femoral condyle have a good blood supply and oftentimes can heal with bracing, pt, and rice. If the tear is significantly displaced or a distal tear off the tibia, these do not usually do well and can sometimes warrant surgery. Either way an MRI is necessary and I do recommend appropriate orthopedic evaluation and treatment.
