My baby is one-years-old and she does not walk yet. why?

It depends: Many infants do not begin to walk until 12 months. However, it is possible that your child may have delayed developmental milestones. Your pediatrician can perform a full developmental evaluation for your child, and determine which interventions (if any) are appropriate at this time.

Normal: Babies learn to walk as early as 10 mo and as late as 14-15 mo. 13 mo is the average. So your baby is normal. Don't use a walker, they actually delay the walking development and they are dangerous

Don't worry: Despite the fact that most babies will walk by a year old, we do not consider it abnormal unless she is not meeting her milestones. Does she crawl? Does she pull up to stand? Is she cruising along furniture and tables? If so, just give her a little more time to get her nerve up and she will take off! if not, you may want to discuss this with your pediatrician.

Not walking @1y: Not all 1 yr old's walk. Was your baby born more than 3 weeks early? Does your familiy have any muscle disease? Has your doctor been following your child's development? Does your child have words, point at things, pick up things with 2 fingers, crawl, pull to a stand, walk around furniture or behind things? If all these are ok then what your baby likely needs is patience and play.

8: Some infants don't walk alone until 15 months. Premature infants will also be a bit delayed. If the baby was born at term and is not yet pulling to stand and cruising or if there are other developmental concerns have your doc refer you for an eval.

No problem: Many babies don't walk unsupported at 12 months. As long as his other developmental milestones are normal, i wouldn't worry. If he's not making progress in 3 to 4 months then he would require a further workup. And please...It's not due to his shoes!
