YES: Treatment requires a prescription, typically of a topical medication such as: permethrins, crotamiton, or lindane . Ivermectin's use in scabies is effective but is "off label" ( ie. Not an fda approved indication). Convincing the family will be easy but space limitations can't do justice to this topic- go to the cdc website for the best answer-http://www.Cdc.Gov/parasites//scabies/.
