Combine or compare: To the best of my knowledge no studies have been performed in comparing the 2 in treatment of gout. Cataflam, one of the formulations of diclofenac may be advantageous as it has a fast onset. In my experience, a short term course of oral naprosyn (naproxen) along with topical diclofenac (volraren) works better.

Either of the two: Some people's pain can respond to one nonsteriodal and not another.
