Get to the dentist!: The quickest and best way to get rid of the pain associated with wisdom teeth is to get to the dentist and have them evaluated as to the presence or absence of infection and whether or not they need to be removed. Until then, you can take otc pain medication as advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache.

Wisdom tooth pain: Pain may be from operculum, pericoronitis, normal eruption, decay, bone damage, damage to adjacent tooth, and other reasons. OTC pain meds, taken exactly as per package directions, may provide temporary relief. But in all probability you will need to see a specialist Oral Surgeon for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
