A member asked:

Tell me the difference between the plastic thing they put in your nose, an oxygen mask, and a breathing tube?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Levels of help: Each can be used to give a person oxygen. The prongs in the nose are nasal cannula, the mask delivers a higher concentration or oxygen and the breathing tube does the highest. That last intervention, called intubation, is also a way to completely breathe for a person. The intensity of the patient's need determines which is appropriate for a given case.
