Need genetic counsel: Most cases of mnd are in persons without a family history. In persons with a family history of mnd, genetics can play a role. Seek a genetics consultation to extensively review the family history and which could result, if you desire, in dna testing.

Low risk: Yes, there are families with hereditary incidence, but these are very rare, and 90% of all cases are sporadic. Since this is a rare disease, with low prevalence, your odds would be similar to general population, about 5 in 100,000.
