A member asked:

Recent blood work. cholesterol is 440. testosterone is low. renal insufficiency. dad recently died of end stage renal fail. where do i begin?

Where to begin: Begin with what's bothering you. I believe this work up was done for a reason. What's the reason? Of the ones listed, renal insufficiency sounds more ominous than the other two, although, high cholesterol is a silent killer as well.

Kidney Disease?: You need to take control of your life to minimize the risk of kidney failure. Start by seeing your physician(p)to see if lipid lowering medicine is an option for you. Do you have risk factor such as poorly controlled hypertension and/or obesity? If so, get them under control with your p's help. Go to a nephrologist for an evaluation of your kidney function to see how good it is. Good luck.
