IntenselyLearnIssues: People are intimidated & scared by the medical industry, partly because humans & life are complicated, most physicians have no direct personal experience with the problems for which they see people & are paid to be quick, not necessarily effective. Thus there are commonly greatly opportunities for improvement. Study, go with people to their appointments, ask good questions, translate, advocate.

Be understanding: Dm type 1 is a difficult disease to deal with especially for adolescents. The best thing is to be understanding as they may feel different from others which can lead to noncompliance and try to teach them early the importance of good blood sugar control and healthy balanced meals.
